Domaine Mathes

Our origin

HISTORY

Founded almost 120 years ago, reinvented in 2022 – Domaine Mathes looks back on an eventful history. Learn more about our origins, history and direction for the future.

In 1907, Caves Mathes was founded by Jean-Pierre Mathes on Rue principale in Wormeldange. At that time, our company had 2.8 hectares of vineyards.

In 1949, Marcel Mathes joined the family business after studying viticulture in Geisenheim, Germany. Under his management, the business expanded and the product portfolio was extended to include foreign wines and spirits.

Since 2005, Domaine Mathes has been managed by Paule and Jean-Paul Hoffmann-Mathes. On 8 hectares of vineyards were grown mostly Riesling (70%) and noble grape varieties Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Mathes sparkling wines were thereby pressed exclusively from Luxembourg grapes.

The exceptional quality of our wines has been marked by numerous awards as „Grand Premier Cru“. The „Crémant de Luxembourg“ produced according to the appellation also received awards.

Year after year, the work of our winery has been awarded gold and silver medals in international wine competitions. The secret of this success: authentic, honest wines that reflect their region and were appreciated by national and international clientele precisely for this.

We remain committed to these values, albeit in a different role: in 2022, Domaine Mathes ceased wine production and is now passionately dedicated to the trade of special drinking pleasures: wines and liqueurs from France, Italy and Austria, as well as the legendary herbal liqueur Jägermeister.
